


What about trade pricing, bulk/quantity break pricing, and what sort of promotion/special offer pricing will you support ? Coupons ? How configurable should the ui be ? Will it be WinForms, WPF or ASP. Will you handle charge accounts, tabs, layby's repairs, appro's, hire, hire purchase, received on account, order, quote, rain checks etc. Does the UI need to be multi-language, and if so, what about receipts, customer facing screens and so on. cash, cheque, eftpos, integrated eftpos, gift card, gift voucher etc. Single branch, independent branches, multi-branch, franhise or enterprise environments ? How will you handle banking and end of day ? Will you accept foreign payments ? What type of payments. You need to consider what you want the system to do and the environments it will run it. it's too broad a question to give any meaningful answer too. Net, and handle retail and restaurant enviornments is kind of like saying "I want to build a four door saloon car with a petrol engine, how ?". Asking, "How do I build a POS ?" even if you state you want to use C# and Pos. Also, 'restaurant' systems can also vary greatly depending on the type of establishment running the system. For a start, 'retail' (being non-food specific, generic retail POS systems) and restaurant POS systems are often quite different. A customer driven POS implementation can be easier because software requirements are all there. Company usually hires professionals from the fields when designing such software. The hardest part is making the design and how can't be easily learned. A POS can be written in any language, I praise Microsoft technologies for making this so easy.
